Shoes: These five sneakers are a must-have for fall 2020

In the past they were only used for sports, today sneakers are an integral part of every day wardrobe. The biggest sneaker trends in autumn 2020.

For a long time now, sneakers are no longer just sports shoes – they are a catwalk trend, status symbol and all-rounder suitable for everyday use. Whether feminine and subtle silhouette, brightly colored dad sneakers, new classics or sustainable merino wool: there is something for everyone in the sneaker trends for autumn 2020.

Simple, white sneakers

Very simple, feminine, white sneakers have long been favorites of fashion-conscious women and are among the absolute must-haves. With their subtle color and slim silhouette, they can really be combined with anything, but especially dresses and skirts give them a more casual look.

Ugly Dad sneaker

What was once reserved for fathers who preferred functionality over style has now become a fashion trend – at least since Balenciaga introduced it two years ago. The Ugly Dad sneakers will also be retained in 2020 – but more in the light version. The thick shoes are no longer so bulky, but lighter, but with unusual color combinations and a chaotic design.

Sustainable sneakers made from merino wool

As in many other areas, the trend for sneakers is towards sustainability: Instead of environmentally harmful and short-lived material, many brands are currently relying on better alternatives, such as vegetable leather or felt and wool.

The Austrian brand Giesswein has created a sneaker that not only impresses with its knitted look, but also offers comfort – even barefoot. Merino wool is not only good for the environment, it is also a real all-rounder: on hot days it keeps your feet nice and cool, at lower temperatures it provides cozy warmth. Moisture and odor also hardly stand a chance – which cannot be said of most plastic shoes.

Vintage sneakers

Regardless of the material, vintage sneakers will also experience a comeback in 2020. Iconic sneakers from the basketball and skate scene from brands such as Converse, Vans, Reebok or Adidas are being reissued in collaboration with high-end designers such as Prada – seen at influencer Xenia Adonts (28) – or Loewe.

Platform sneaker

The high-heel effect meets cozy sneakers: with platform sneakers you look taller and stretch your legs optically without compromising on comfort. More and more labels, from sports brands to lifestyle brands, are relying on thick soles for sneakers.
