After her Olympic victory in Tokyo, Nina Christen fell into a hole. A school of life, as she says looking back.

Nina Christen already has her sights set on the Olympic Games in Paris. No wonder, the Nidwalden native has already had her ticket for the major event in 2024 in her pocket since the European Games in June. The anticipation is already there, said the 29-year-old on Thursday at the Swiss Olympic meeting in Sursee. And even more important: “I’m doing very well, I’m enjoying everything I do again,” said the Tokyo 2021 Olympic champion.

That was not always so. After her great success by winning Olympic gold and bronze, Christen fell into a mental hole. A break from sport helped her get back on track. A challenging time in which she learned a lot. «I can use all of this for the future. It was a school of life that I will take with me forever.”

Highs in 2024 are guaranteed

At the World Cup in Baku in August, Christen showed that she can once again compete with the best internationally. In the three-position match she narrowly missed out on a medal in fourth place. She also wants to fight for precious metal again in Paris next summer.

But Christians don’t put any particular pressure on themselves. “It’s a different book, a new book that I’m writing now and I’m trying above all to take the good from it.” One way or another, Christen will be setting off to achieve heights in the coming year: She is currently training to become a helicopter pilot. She’s still missing a few theory tests and flying lessons, “but I hope to be finished by next fall at the latest.”
