The short dresses can be taken out. This includes smooth and well-groomed legs – this is how the perfect shave succeeds.

Shorts, summer dresses or short skirts: When the temperature is summery, long jeans can stay in the closet and the legs can go out into the fresh air. Stubble and dry skin are just a nuisance. With these tips, hardly anything can go wrong with a leg shave.

Step 1: soak and exfoliate

Before the annoying hairs are removed, the skin of the legs should be properly prepared. It is therefore advisable to soak the skin in warm water for about 15 minutes before shaving. This ensures that the pores open and the hair becomes softer, which makes shaving a little more comfortable.

Regular peelings can ensure more beautiful skin in the long term. So before the blade is used, the legs should be peeled off. You can make a paste yourself from olive oil, honey and sugar and rub it over the dampened skin. In the drugstore, there are also numerous products that are wonderfully suitable for getting rid of dead skin. An alternative to granular peeling is acid peeling with glycolic or lactic acid. Liquid acid peelings can also help with ingrown hairs, prevent red pimples and are suitable for sensitive skin.

Step 2: the right water temperature

Not freezing cold, not scorching hot. Before hair removal with a razor, it is best to wet your legs with warm, not hot, water. The warm water temperatures ensure that the pores of the skin open and the shave is more comfortable and effective.

Water that is too hot closes the pores and can promote razor burn. However, the water should not be too cold either, as goose bumps make shaving difficult and injuries are more likely.

Step 3: shaving cream

Shaving dry or just with water can favor the so-called strawberry skin, which shows up like a rash as small dots on the skin of the legs. Shaving foam is therefore ideal so that the razor can glide smoothly over the skin. In addition, you should never use too much foam, otherwise the blade can clog. All kinds of shaving foam can be found in drugstores; sensitive versions and foams without fragrances are suitable for sensitive skin.

If there is no shaving foam available, you can use a hair conditioner to shave as an alternative. It not only ensures soft hair, but also ensures that the blade can slide easily over the leg.

Step 4: the right technique

Step by step: The legs have a lot of area and should not be shaved with a line from the ankle to the knee. So you can easily leave hair out and have to work again afterwards. It is better to work your way up in small sections and wash the razor briefly with lukewarm water every now and then.

The legs should also always be shaved against the direction of hair growth – i.e. from bottom to top. In this way, stubble can be avoided, the hairs can rise and then be removed without much effort.

Step 5: the care afterwards

Good skin care is essential for the perfect look, because who likes to have visibly dry skin? To ensure that the smooth feeling remains, the legs should be carefully patted dry with a towel immediately after shaving – do not rub or rub, as this irritates the skin unnecessarily!

After that, the legs should be provided with sufficient moisture. Those who tend to have dry skin can use richer creams. A particularly proven active ingredient is urea. It binds the water and regulates the moisture balance of the skin. Do not forget your sunscreen afterwards, because the skin is more sensitive to UV rays, especially after acid peelings. The higher the sun protection factor, the better. A great side effect: sun protection prevents visible skin aging.
