Showtime for Watch 6, iPad Air 4: Apple does not present a new iPhone

There wasn't much going on: Instead of new iPhones, Apple is presenting two new smartwatches and two new iPads at its September event. The 12-series iPhones will probably be submitted in October.

At the beginning of the virtual Apple event, Tim Cook made it clear that he would not present any new iPhones. Today there are two devices, he said: Apple Watch and iPad. The company is likely to present the iPhone 12 series at another event in October, as its production is delayed due to the Corona crisis.

Apple Watch 6 and Apple Watch SE

It's hard to believe that the Apple Watch is already in its sixth generation. The device is correspondingly mature and accordingly the new model is an improved further development. The most important novelty is a sensor that can measure the level of oxygen in the blood. This means that the watch can now not only monitor the heart functions and warn of problems. Breathing problems, for example, can be recognized from the blood oxygen content.

In addition, the Apple Watch 6 has a more powerful processor and the permanently active display can shine brighter. In addition, Apple has other watch faces on offer that show different designs with different complications. And of course there are new bracelets.

New family offer

Because the Watch 6 is quite expensive, there is now an SE version of Apple's Smartwatch, just like the iPhone. Ultimately, this is a device with older hardware, but with most of the functions of the top models.

So that children without an iPhone can also wear an Apple Watch, Apple has created the option of individually setting up the watches on a parent's device with their own phone numbers.

The cheapest version of the Apple Watch 6 costs 418.15 euros, the most expensive model is available for 515.65 euros. The prices for the Apple Watch SE are between 291.45 euros and 340.20 euros.

Services in a package cheaper

With Fitness +, users will in future have the option of combining their workouts with video instructions that run on the iPhone. You will see the sensor data on both devices. There is also the right background music. However, the service is not free, but costs $ 10 per month, after all, family members can use the function for free. Fitness + is not yet available in Germany, whether and when it will happen is not yet available.

If you want to use several paid Apple services, Apple One now also offers various packages that can save you money. There is also additional iCloud storage for the more expensive combinations.

iPad 8 and iPad Air 4

The iPad family has also received two new members. The simplest and cheapest device comes in a stronger version, but with the same design. The cheapest iPad 8 with 64 gigabytes (GB) of storage is available for 369.40 euros, for the model with 128 GB and mobile internet you have to pay 505.90 euros.

The fourth generation of the iPad Air is more exciting and has the same design as the Pro models with an almost borderless display (10.9 inches) and a flat metal frame. The Lightning connector is also being replaced by USB-C. The device does not have face recognition, the fingerprint sensor is now in the power button on the top. In addition, the iPad Air 4 is equipped with the new A14 chip and should not have any performance problems with it in the coming years. The same chip is expected to power the iPhone 12 as well.
