In "Showtime of My Life – Stars Against Cancer" celebrities pull themselves out. In advance they told why they are dropping the covers for the show.

16 celebrities want to set an example shortly before World Cancer Day (February 4th): They drop their covers on TV and draw attention to preventive measures for breast, prostate and testicular cancer. Their message: If we can undress in front of an audience of millions, you can even more so in front of your doctor. Many of the candidates have personal stories and points of contact with the topic of cancer. These celebrities will take to the stage at "Showtime of My Life – Stars Against Cancer" on February 1st and 2nd at 8:15 pm (VOX and TVNow).

Elena Carrière (24), former "GNTM" model and influencer, lost her aunt Mareike Carrière to cancer in 2014. Artist Lili Paul-Roncalli (22) wants to "declare war on the insidious disease of cancer," she explains in a VOX interview. Her mother had previously had a tumor in the brain that had been successfully operated on. Actress Mimi Fiedler (45) also came into contact with the topic: Her father had carcinoma of the paranasal sinuses 15 years ago, today he is healthy again. Both the mother and grandmother of actress and presenter Mirja du Mont (45) developed breast cancer, and a benign tumor in her breast was discovered a few years ago and was completely removed.

When her mother developed uterine cancer, ex-professional soccer player Nadine Angerer (42) was ten years old. Your mom beat cancer and is now cured. Bestselling author Nicole Staudinger (39) was diagnosed with breast cancer on her 32nd birthday. She is now healthy too. She wrote a book about her experience and encourages those affected. Singer Stefanie Hertels (41), then dance trainer, fell ill with breast cancer in the 90s, today she is 91 and a role model for Hertel. "I like to postpone prevention, but that's over now" – Ulla Kock am Brinks (59) father lost the fight against colon cancer when the presenter was 27 years old. Her brother-in-law died of pancreatic cancer when she was only 58 years old.

In 2018, comedian Bastian Bielendorfers (36) mother died of lung cancer. He dealt with death in his fifth and most recent book "The Great Break". The uncle of Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht's (29) best friend, with whom the actor had an almost family relationship, died of cancer. "If we can shake people up with this and they might go to the doctor, then that's really a good thing," says presenter and actor Jochen Schropp (42), who lost his father and grandfather to cancer. "As a comedian I drop the covers because I want to inspire people to drop the covers and go to cancer screening", explains Faisal Kawusi (29) his participation.

Ex-gymnast Philipp Boy (33) and his wife Vivien accompanied people from their immediate family through various cancers, Boy's grandmother died of breast cancer. "I'm there because I had to experience first-hand what it's like to deal with cancer overnight," says ex-professional footballer Marco Russ (35), who was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2016. Actor Thorsten Nindel (56) celebrated the victory against lung cancer in 2015 and ex-handball player Uli Roth (58) is now considered cured. In 2009 he and his twin brother Michael were diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Course of the show

The former professional dancers and "Let's Dance" judges Motsi Mabuse (39, women) and Joachim Llambi (56, men) as well as other dance coaches prepare the stars for the demanding choreography. They are also accompanied by Guido Maria Kretschmer (55) during the preparations. Then you go on stage with show outfits. In order to draw attention to the importance of preventive examinations, the celebrities are given a detailed lesson in matters of preventive care. The women are given tips on how to scan for breast cancer, and some men also have testicles and prostate exams. The ladies and their performance can be seen on February 1st, the men follow them on February 2nd.
