It’s now official, silent Hill is back ! Konami is about to relaunch its famous saga via various projects… And it won’t be confined to video games.
The Japanese publisher has therefore pulled out all the stops to meet the expectations of lovers of the saga and attract new players/spectators along the way.
Nostalgia above all
The rumors were therefore true! The iconic Silent Hill 2 will indeed afford a remake. Released in 2001 on PlayStation 2, this episode is undoubtedly the most beloved of the series. The story follows James Sunderland who travels to the foggy town to find his deceased wife. Our poor protagonist must then face nightmarish creatures, including the famous Pyramid Head.
This is the Polish studio Bloober Team (Layers of Fear, Blair Witch, The Medium) who takes care of this remake. All the visual aspect will obviously be reworked thanks to the Unreal Engine 5 engine. The music of the game will also undergo some slight changes. As for the very history of the title, it should not move too much.
This remake of Silent Hill 2 does not yet have a release date. The game will be exclusive to PS5 and PC for 12 months. The Steam page is already online with the various required configurations.
Continuations in ideas
Fortunately, Konami did not only announce the remake of the second opus. Indeed, several projects currently in development have also been revealed. To start with Silent Hill: Townfallan opus co-produced with Annapurna Interactive and developed by No Code Studios (Observation, Story Untold). This will be a story-driven episode. We don’t know any more at this time.
Now it’s the turn of Silent Hill: Ascent to shine. This time we are in the presence of a new interactive streaming experience in the form of a series produced by Bad Robot, the studio headed by JJ Abrams. Another company named Genvid is involved in the production. She specializes in the field of live interactive shows. A project that is intriguing to say the least, but which remains very mysterious.
To finish with the “video games” part, Konami released a teaser of Silent Hill f. This opus seems to stand out from the rest of the series since it will take place in a Japanese city of the 60s. The player will be confronted with ” a terrifying world of exquisite beauty “. The storyline was dreamed up by Ryūkishi07, a best-selling author with a proven track record of psychological horror and supernatural crime novels.
See you in the dark rooms
Finally, a third feature film is in preparation. It is the French director of the first opus, Christophe Gans, who is in charge. The film will tell the story of a young man who returns to Silent Hill, where he found love. And what he finds there will be a pure nightmare “. The events should take place after those of the film released in 2006. No release date has been communicated since the feature film is still in the pre-production phase. However, we can see visuals taken from the storyboard in the video below.
In short, ten long years after the release of the last game to date (Book of Memories on PS Vita) and more than seven years after the cancellation of the title of Hideo Kojima (the famous demo PT !), silent Hill is back! We just have to wait to discover new details about the projects announced this week.
