In “Sing mein Song” musicians invite you to a “swap concert” and interpret each other’s songs. The first evening belongs to DJ BoBo.

“Sing my song – The Swap Concert” is back. The VOX music show (8:15 p.m., also via TVNow) to be seen again weekly. In the eighth season, a group of musicians will again take on the songs of their respective colleagues and perform their own version of the song. What will the actual artist say about the reinterpretation? Every evening is dedicated to a musician and his songs, the season opener belongs to a singer from Switzerland.

From rapper to singer-songwriter

It starts with René Baumann aka DJ BoBo (53, “Dance With Me”). The Swiss singer and dancer made Eurodance popular in the early 90s. After the first successes in his home country, the international breakthrough came with the hit “Somebody Dance With Me” (1993). Since then the singer has landed numerous other hits (“Everybody”, “Love Is All Around” or “There Is A Party”) and impressed with his elaborately designed tours to his albums such as “Pirates of Dance”, “Vampires” or “Fantasy” .

The second episode (April 27) is dedicated to the music of Joris (31, “Just the Music”). The singer-songwriter studied at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg and received a recording contract in 2014. After his first single “Herz über Kopf”, his debut album “Hopelessly Hopefully” was a success in 2015. The second album “Schrei es raus” followed in 2018. In episode three (May 4th) the musicians dedicate themselves to the rapper Nura (32, “What I mean”). The musician with Eritrean roots made a name for herself from 2014 as part of the Berlin hip-hop duo SXTN and rap colleague Juju (28). Since 2018 she has been walking on solo paths and released her first solo album “Habibi” in 2019.

From folk to reggae

Episode four (May 11th) will bring the music of Mighty Oaks (“Brother”) and front man Ian Hooper (27) closer to the audience. The musician, who was born in the US state of Washington, came to Munich to study and has lived in Germany since 2008. In 2010 he founded the folk band Mighty Oaks with the native Italian Claudio Donzelli and the Englishman Craig Saunders. After their debut album “Howl” they were also able to celebrate successes with the successors “Dreamers” and “All Things Go”. The fifth episode (May 18) belongs to Stefanie Heinzmann (32, “Masterplan”). The Swiss is known for her victory in Stefan Raab’s (54) casting show “SSDSDSSWEMUGABRTLAD” 2007. With “My Man Is a Mean Man” or “Diggin ‘in The Dirt” she landed hits and will publish her sixth in mid-May 2021 with “Labyrinth” Studio album.

Episode six is ​​the turn of the songs by Tilmann Otto aka Gentleman (46, “Superior”). He is considered Germany’s most famous reggae singer and was already in the fourth season of “Sing my Song”. On his travels to Jamaica he learned patois, the Jamaican dialect, and impressed with his debut album “Trodin On”. His third album, “Confidence”, marked his final breakthrough in 2004. Many appearances followed in North, Central, South America, Africa and Europe and collaborations with well-known stars such as Shaggy (52). The finale (June 1st) will focus on the songs of host Johannes Oerding (39, “On good days”), who was an artist in “Sing my Song” in 2019. The singer, who was born in Münster, was discovered at the age of 17 and moved to Hamburg in 2006. From there he started his career and achieved gold status with albums such as “First Choice” (2009), “Alles brennt” (2016) or “Kreise” (2017).

Filming under Corona conditions

The shooting of the eighth season of “Sing my Song – The Exchange Concert” did not take place in South Africa this time, but for the first time in Germany – on the Baltic Sea at Gut Weissenhaus – due to the ongoing corona situation. The former manor house is located in the municipality of Wangels in the Ostholstein district and is now a luxury resort. Due to its location on Weissenhäuser Strand, the participants did not have to do without walks on the beach and a fresh sea breeze. The shooting took place under strict Corona measures, none of the artists and none of the production team was infected with Covid-19 during the shooting.
