Shock in the music world: Singer Lizzo hints at her departure from music in an emotional Instagram post.

With a dramatic statement On her official Instagram account, the singer Lizzo (35) hinted at ending her music career. In her post, the artist explains that she feels surrounded by lies and ridicule. She concludes: “The world doesn’t want me.”

“I’m the target of ridicule every time because I look the way I look,” said the “About Damn Time” singer. “All I want to do is music – and I want to make people happy and help the world be a better place. But I’m starting to think the world doesn’t want me in it,” she writes in her highly emotional post and is probably also referring to the criticism she has received online in the last few months: “I didn’t sign up for this shit. I’m quitting,” she ends her post with a victory emoji.

Fans of the singer are pleading with her in the comments to continue her music career. A fan writes: “You have helped and supported so many. Please don’t give up, we need you and love you!!” Another commented: “I’m not sure if it does much but you’ve definitely helped me become more confident and brave, especially when posting. I admire you and it’s unfair how taller black women are treated on the internet. You don’t deserve this, I hope that changes soon.”

Did the dancers’ allegations end Lizzo’s career?

The decision by Lizzo, who is considered a representative of the body positivity movement, comes at a time in which she is confronted with various challenges: allegations of abuse as well as sexual and racist harassment have been made by former dancers. In general, there was a hostile working atmosphere. These allegations may have played a role in Lizzo’s announcement that she would end her career. Since the allegations, the singer has largely withdrawn from the public. Her last public appearance was at the 2024 Grammy Awards, where she presented the award for Best R’n’B Song to SZA (34).
