Single-axle vehicle rollover – boy flown to hospital after crash in classic car

A serious accident occurred on Saturday in the Swiss municipality of Rüthi (Canton of St. Gallen), which borders Austria. Four children between the ages of four and 14 were driving a vintage agricultural vehicle when they suddenly lost control. A child was run over and had to be flown to a hospital.

An 11-year-old boy was driving a single-axle agricultural vehicle on Dachslochstrasse around 12 p.m. on Saturday when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle and left the road on the right side. The eleven-year-old and his three passengers aged 14, eleven and four, who were sitting on the attached loading area, jumped off. The single-axle vehicle overturned. Shortly afterwards the vehicle overturned, with the 14-year-old falling under the single-axle vehicle. He was so seriously injured that he had to be flown to a clinic by the Swiss air rescue service REGA after receiving first aid. The single-axle vehicle came to a standstill around 50 meters below the road in a meadow. Not authorized to drive, not insured. In addition to the fact that the 11-year-old should not have been allowed to drive the vehicle, it also emerged when the accident was recorded that the single-axle vehicle did not have the necessary insurance having. According to the St. Gallen cantonal police, the young person will be reported to the responsible youth attorney’s office.
