China is stepping up military maneuvers around the island of Taiwan. The United States assures that in the event of an invasion of Taiwan, Beijing will lose every time. The Americans are already anticipating the dreaded scenario, namely that of an invasion which would force them to intervene in favor of its historical ally.
The Chinese ogre and its two million soldiers against the Taiwanese Tom Thumb and its 300,000 men. The balance of power seems simple, yet according to American experts, an invasion of the island of Taiwan by China in the next three years would probably be doomed. The reason ? The expected support from the United States and Japan, long-time allies.
This is the reason why Beijing resumed its military exercises this week. “These drills are aimed at testing our combat capability and resolutely countering provocations from outside forces and Korean Taiwanese separatists,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said.
Indispensable support
American experts studied 24 different invasion scenarios in total. According to them, the degree of involvement of the United States will be decisive. Without American help to defend Taiwan, the island would be conquered by the Chinese army in less than three months.
But China would lose at least 10,000 men in the battle. If the United States intervenes, more than 3,000 American soldiers could be killed in the fighting.
