Sir David Attenborough: wildlife filmmaker breaks Jennifer Aniston's Instagram record

Everyone wants to hear what Sir David Attenborough has to say. The famous wildlife filmmaker and naturalist turns Instagram upside down.

Sir David Attenborough (94), Great Britain's most famous wildlife filmmaker and naturalist, at the age of 94 dares to venture into a world he has never seen before. On Thursday (September 24th) he logged on to the social media platform Instagram – and immediately set a new record. After just four hours, the British were already followed by a million people. Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston (51, "We are the Millers"), who previously held this record, was able to pack up.

"I'm exploring this new way of communicating for myself because, as we all know, the world is in trouble," said Attenborough in his first post. He wants to use Instagram and its reach in the future to share his views on environmental protection, to openly address environmental problems and to explain how they can be overcome in his opinion.

Aniston becomes the understudy

The Guinness Book of Records has now confirmed Attenborough's achievement. A related comment below the video reads: "Congratulations Sir David – a new record for the shortest time to reach a million followers on Instagram."

Jennifer Aniston has held this record since October last year. For her it was five hours and 16 minutes before the million mark was cracked. The actress posted a selfie with her "Friends" co-stars Lisa Kudrow (57), Courteney Cox (56), Matt LeBlanc (53), David Schwimmer (53) and Matthew Perry (51). Instagram then reported technical problems for which Aniston apologized in a charming way: "I swear I didn't want to destroy it," she wrote about a clip in which she played petulantly and pushed her cell phone into the corner.
