The broadcast of “Sissi” has just ended on TF1. Already renewed for a season 2, which should arrive in 2022, the German series will find itself facing a major competitor since Netflix will also offer its version of the story.
After only two weeks of broadcasting, Sissi ended this Thursday, December 30 on TF1. 50 years after the release of the trilogy worn by Romy Schneider, the channel offered during this holiday season a much more modern and sulphurous version of the history of the iconic Empress, which did not fail to make people react. Internet users.
RTL, the German channel behind the series, has already announced its renewal for a second season, which should probably arrive next Christmas. But it wouldn’t be the only series around Sissi to be offered in 2022 since Netflix is also working on a new adaptation.
After successfully tackling the life of Elizabeth II in The Crown, the platform will this time tell us the story of Elisabeth of Bavaria in The Empress.
Created by Katharina Eyssen, this German series will of course return to the love story between Sissi and Franz, while addressing the geopolitical conflicts of the time. History with a capital H will therefore have a major place in this new creation.
Who to play Sissi and Franz?
After Dominique Devenport and Jannik Schümann, it will be Devrim Lingnau and Philip Froissant who will have the heavy task of slipping into the skin of Elisabeth and François-Joseph I in The Empress. The first became known by playing in many German series unseen in France.
Philip Froissant, meanwhile, was the star of Black Island, a movie released on Netflix last August. Melika Foroutan (Tribes of Europa), Johannes Nussbaum, Elisa Schlott, Jördis Triebel (Dark) and Almila Bagriacik (4Blocks) will complete the cast.
