Sissi on TF1: will there be a season 2?

TF1 is broadcasting the last three episodes of “Sissi” this Thursday evening. Will the historic series with Dominique Devenport in the iconic Empress be entitled to a season 2?

After a fanfare launch last Thursday, TF1 is broadcasting the last three episodes of season 1 of Sissi this evening. Worn by Dominique Devenport and Jannik Schümann, this much more modern and sulphurous version of the adventures of the famous Empress did not fail to make Internet users react, who had difficulty in forgetting the films with Romy Schneider.

This first burst of episodes focuses on the early days of a difficult relationship between Sissi and her husband Franz Joseph I, and shows us how she grew from a carefree teenager to an independent and self-confident Empress.

Spanning from 1853 to 1857, season 1 however only covers a tiny part of Empress Elisabeth’s life, her eventful history being difficult to tell in just 6 episodes.

Will Sissi be entitled to a season 2?

Sensing that the series had enormous potential, Hauke Bartel, the head of Fiction at RTL Germany had announced last October at the world premiere which took place within the framework of the Canneseries festival that Sissi was renewed for a season 2.

A bet that was a winner because, if the audiences on TF1 were mixed during the first week of broadcasting (only 2.78 million curious gathered in front of their screens last Thursday, or 14.1% of share audience), Sissi met with enormous success on RTL +, its broadcasting platform across the Rhine.

For now, no shooting date has been announced for this new season, but it’s a safe bet that the new episodes should be available around next Christmas. They should focus on the years after the death of young Sophie, years in which Sissi sank into depression and fled the court of Vienna to rejuvenate in Madeira and Corfu.
