A survey from 2020 shows that the use of sex toys is steadily increasing (Statista 2020). In 2018, 37 percent of women and 28 percent of men stated that they currently use sex toys. The proportion has increased significantly in 2020 compared to previous years: to 61 percent for women and 47 percent for men – and the trend is rising.
There is obviously a lot of interest in sex toys. So it’s no wonder that the market is growing accordingly – and that innovation doesn’t stop here either. In addition to “classic” sex toys, manufacturers have been focusing on new, smart ideas for a few years now. Getting intimate with technology may still sound strange to many people, but it’s actually becoming increasingly popular. The vibrator, which can be controlled by remote control, or apps with sexual depictions that are viewed with virtual reality glasses – sexuality is breaking new ground.
The price range for technical sex toys is quite wide. In particular, devices that work with apps and offer many functions are rather expensive and rarely available for less than a hundred euros. For those who want to get a feel for smart sex toys first, simpler devices that have fewer features are sufficient.

For this comparison, a CHIP specialist editor examined test reports from other publications as well as the most popular offers (“best sellers”) and customer opinions from online retailers. Based on this we made the product selection. When selecting the top devices, we focus on models with more than four stars and a reasonably high number of reviews. We have read a selection of customer reviews and selected devices that, based on our professional assessment, meet the needs of the users. The products have not been tested in the CHIP test center.
