End of the journey for Smart’s small electric city car EQ Forfour.

A city car that had landed on the roads in 2014 (in thermal version), then sharing its platform with a certain Renault Twingo.

Endgame for the Smart EQ Forfour

Launched in 2014 in a thermal version, the Smart Forfour was available in 2018 in a 100% electric version, with the EQ mention. A model assembled at Renault in Slovenia, but which is now withdrawing … the fault of its relative success.

Indeed, at a price of 30,000 euros, a range of 130 km and ultra fierce competition now, the Smart EQ Forfour had very (too) few assets in its favor. Thus, the Smart EQ Fortwo sold just under 1,400 units in France in 2021, against only 225 units for the EQ Forfour.

Obviously, it is the little cousin, namely the electric Renault Twingo, which crushed the Smart EQ range, the French showing for its part just under 9,000 registrations over the year. Let us recall in passing that Smart has ignored the thermal engine and today only offers zero emission vehicles, namely the EQ Fortwo and its convertible version.
