Sniper Elite 5: new multiplayer mode, live cutscene and cover in the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel

After taking us to Italy in Sniper Elite 4, Rebellion returns to a more classic playing field for Sniper Elite 5, France. We will evolve this time in 1944 on the Atlantic coast, on fronts which remain to be specified, but a level at Mont-Saint-Michel has already been glimpsed in the first trailer of gameplay.

It is still honoreda cinematic presented today, created by Rebellion VFX, logically featuring the hero Karl Fairburn ready to sniper of the Nazi. Above all, the developers took the opportunity to announce an online multiplayer mode with a novel approach for the series: the mode Invasion, allowing a second person to embody a sniper of theAxis to eliminate the protagonist, or even a third to join Carl to help him face this new opponent. This campaign feature will of course be optional, but it could add some challenge to your game and also bring rewards to the invader.

Invasion mode will bring a whole new dimension to the game’s dramatic intensity, and add increased diversity to the tactics players will need to employ to complete their mission. The Axis sniper will have the sole objective of eliminating the player, while the Allied sniper will have an additional objective: eliminating the invader. Invasion mode will also be available in co-op mode, which will increase the challenge for the Axis invader since they will now have two Allies to hunt down, but offer better rewards.

Invasion mode will allow both players to learn unique skills. The Axis invader can use Axis AI to help locate the allied player. Marking an Axis soldier will activate “Eagle Sight”, allowing if that soldier spots the allied sniper, to display their last known position on the map. The Axis sniper can also tell nearby soldiers to “Stay Vigilant”, which increases their level of attention. For the allied sniper, each level has invasion phones scattered around the map that the player can use to find out their opponent’s last known position. But beware, not only can these phones be tricked, but excessive use will arouse suspicion and reveal the player’s location.

Axis snipers will be rewarded with weapons, items, and skin unlocks, while allied snipers can earn weapon and character skins by killing their opponent. You will also receive additional XP if Invasion Mode is enabled.

Chris Kingsley, Technical Director of Rebellion, said: “Invasion Mode is a fantastic addition to the Sniper Elite 5 gameplay experience. A human-controlled invader can act in a wide variety of unpredictable ways, adding to the challenge and raises the tension even more. The player is informed that an Axis sniper has joined their game, and from then on the game of cat and mouse becomes extremely intense and high stakes. For players who just want to play solo, it will be possible to turn off Invasion Mode, but we recommend everyone give it a try at some point. We had a lot of fun with him in the studio, intervening in other players’ games and finding innovative and stealthy ways to eliminate each other. »

Finally, the main artwork and the official jacket have also been revealed, with in the background, we give it to you in a thousand: Mont-Saint-Michel. This should delight the Normans. Sniper Elite 5 does not yet have a release date, but it will see the light of day in 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, with physical versions to be distributed on consoles by Just for Games. It can already be pre-ordered for €59.99 on Amazon.co.uk.
