According to the report in the “Bild” newspaper, an authority spokesman explained that there was a suspicion of an inadmissible shutdown device in the engine control of an X3 with a two-liter diesel engine. According to internal files, the car should emit less nitrogen oxides when, among other things, the air conditioning is switched off, the paper reports. How many vehicles are affected remained unclear. At the request of the Reuters news agency, BMW said that it had already provided information about the process reported by “Bild” in the 2023 half-year report. The interim statement said that the BMW Group was “in exchange with two responsible registration authorities in Europe to answer questions “To clarify the emission behavior that emerged as part of market surveillance on measurement results for a BMW vehicle model from September 2010 to March 2014.” This model is a BMW X3 20d. The hearing is still pending. That is why BMW does not comment further on individual questions in this context. The diesel scandal in the German automotive industry has caused a stir in recent years.
