At the end of a back-to-school meeting, the members of the Confederation of Tourism Actors (Tourism = 8% of French GDP and 2 million jobs) formulate a wish for the year 2022 ” let us work so that France remains the 1time world tourist destination »
During this crisis, our activities have proven their usefulness. We are essential to our country’s economy and society, we are this “French way of life”: conviviality, living together and sharing, a source of innovation and new cooperation.
Due to health constraints for two years and repeated “stop and go”, the Government has deployed numerous aid schemes to support the tourism sector. But the members of the CAT point out that tourism has not been favored more than the other sectors also impacted by the health crisis and its restrictions.
In the very short term urgent measures must be taken to pass the course of the 5th wave:
The revision access landingsfor the management of fixed costs and partial activity, so as to make companies truly eligible for this aid.
- Exemptions and reductions in chargesto support the maintenance and attractiveness of our jobs and as an essential condition for the rebound of tourism in 2022.
- The loan guaranteed by the State (PGE) must be treated in a special way in relation to the company’s other debts and must in no case brand the company with a “hot iron” vis-à-vis the banking sector. Tourism companies will not be able to face both the PGE debt and the obligation to invest to renew their offers in order to remain competitive at European and global level.
Next,
if the covid-19 virus becomes endemic, we will have to adapt (lightening and agility of health protocols, etc.) with the essential aim of preserving both public finances and maintaining the activities of our companies at a viable level.
We have the collective ambition to reconnect with competitiveness in order to remain the world’s leading tourist destination and succeed in the major international sporting events of 2023 and 2024.
