The Association of Austrian Criminalists awards the “Criminalists of the Year” award every year. This year the award went to those police officers who were able to solve the “Home Invasion” in Stattegg.
Wolfgang Ofner, Uwe Wenninger, Thomas Hackl, Wolfgang Kostelenski, Stefan Kranjec, Benjamin Pfingstl and Eva-Maria Sampt from Styria can call themselves “criminalists of the year”. The officers of the Styrian State Criminal Police Office were honored in Vienna for their work. They solved the brutal home invasion in Stattegg in December of the previous year, in which a 55-year-old woman was attacked and gold coins were stolen from a rabbit hutch. The woman was tied to a chair with cable ties and tape. Although she was uninjured, she suffered a severe shock.Seven arrests thanks to investigationsMeticulous investigations led to the first arrests at the beginning of February 2023. The Graz public prosecutor’s office ordered the arrest of two Russians (27, 28) living in Graz. On the evening of February 17, 2022, the next arrest ordered by the StA Graz: a 28-year-old from Graz. In February and March 2023, two people from Graz, a woman (48) and a man (28) as well as a 57-year-old Croat were arrested. An international search was successfully carried out for another accomplice (23 from Brazil). The accused were sentenced in the first instance to long prison terms in September 2023.
