Sonia Liebing: Why her husband is her "greatest weakness"

Sonia Liebing has been married to her husband Markus for ten years. "We really go through thick and thin," enthuses the pop star.

Sonia Liebing (31) is the new star in the Schlager sky and just one year after her debut "Wishless happy" she released her second album "Absolut" (September 25th). But the singer is also doing well in her private life. She has been married to her husband Markus for ten years, and two children crown their love. In an interview with the news agency spot on news, the 31-year-old reveals how her children are experiencing the Corona crisis and what financial restrictions it brings for the family.

Last year you made your breakthrough with your debut album and the subsequent hall tour. To what extent is the Corona crisis now thwarting your plans?

Liebing: Right … Last year we released my first musical baby and then I was allowed to go on a big XXL tour with Florian Silbereisen, Matthias Reim etc. It was a huge experience and a great time for me. Then the Corona crisis came and at some point I got the message that the tour would not continue in May. That was very shocking and sad news for me and my colleagues. But I'm in good spirits that it will continue in March 2021 and that we will be able to continue the tour.

For many musicians, the Corona crisis is a great financial burden. How are you doing with that?

Liebing: Of course, the Corona crisis brings a great financial burden for us performers as well as many other people from the music industry. My husband Markus is now doing more other things again and we as a family have also reduced the demands a little. We all very much hope that things will soon improve again.

How did you use the free time with your family during the lockdown?

Liebing: We spent a lot of time in nature and were able to do some work at home that had recently been abandoned. We did a lot for school with our older daughter, for example reading and calculating with her. In this phase the kids weren't allowed to go to school either! So we parents took over the teaching role at home.

You dedicate the song "Mutterherz" to your two daughters Sophia and Emilia. How do your children experience the Corona period?

Liebing: Well, you have to be a child (laughs). My children are very sober about the situation. As far as possible, we don't convey any fears or worries to the kids and they get the right answers to their questions. I think children don't let that sort of thing get too close to them. Children don't have the worries of adults, and that's a good thing.

You don't like showing your children in public. Why is this so important to you?

Liebing: Basically I have no problem showing my children in public and they have already been on television. But when I do my Instagram stories, I don't like pointing the camera at them. Unfortunately there are many idiots out there who allow themselves to judge anything and interfere everywhere. I know for a fact that if someone writes bad things about my children, I couldn't take it. You can approach me and find my music bad. You can also find me stupid as a person, it goes in one ear and out of the other. But if you offend my children, I become a lion mother, just like any mother who loves her children. To avoid something like that, I don't take my children directly in the picture.

You have been married to your husband Markus for almost ten years and have been a couple for 15 years. What is the secret of your happy relationship?

Liebing: The recipe will probably be true love. In any relationship you have to work on yourself over and over again, and that can be hard work at times. But you grow and mature together. Our children have definitely welded us even closer together. But we have also experienced a lot together and we really go through thick and thin, so we get through everything together. We also like to be together and reluctantly separate from each other. We really enjoy spending time together and after all these years we can't get enough of each other. My husband is just my greatest weakness.

Again and again you will be compared to Helene Fischer. What do you make of it?

Liebing: I just take it as a big compliment because I adore this artist very much. Nevertheless, I am Sonia Liebing, I go my own way and don't want to imitate anyone.

Which star would you like to be on stage with?

Liebing: I've been a big fan of Semino Rossi for a long time. His music has been with me for almost ten years now. That's why I'd like to sing with Semino in the first place. However, in the last few months I have also met many new colleagues with whom I could just as easily imagine a duet, for example Giovanni Zarrella or Ross Antony.

You have a toned body. How do you keep yourself so fit?

Liebing: On the one hand, I have to admit that I have a good disposition. On the other hand, I also work a lot on myself. I play sports and, by and large, watch my diet. Water! Water is not a secret recipe but it is the basis of our body! I must drink three liters a day. I am generally not up for all of the sweet things. I think that you can regulate a lot with a healthy drinking behavior.
