According to insistent rumors, Sonos is preparing an in-house competitor to Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

The brand could indeed very soon draw its own “homemade” voice assistant.

To a voice command ” Hey Sonos »?

According to information gleaned by the magazine The Verge, Sonos will soon add a new voice assistant to its connected audio systems, which are already compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Thus, at the beginning of June, a new firmware update should allow devices powered by version S2 of the internal software to have a new voice assistant… homemade!

Indeed, this new Sonos Voice Control will allow users to benefit from all the benefits of a voice assistant, without going through Amazon or Google. To activate it, all you have to do is pronounce the magic formula ” Hey Sonos “, before formulating a request.

At first, however, it is rumored that this new voice assistant made in Sonos will not be complete, since the latter will only work initially with Apple Music, Amazon Music, Pandora and Deezer. Support for the Spotify ogre as well as YouTube Music would therefore not be available immediately.

Sonos would emphasize my privacy

Still according to the information reported by The Verge, this voice assistant signed Sonos will make it a point of honor to respect the confidentiality of users, carefully avoiding recording requests. The latter would also prove to be faster than its competitors in terms of musical controls, not to mention some additional features that would be specific to this Sonos assistant.

For Sonos, this would afford a little freedom vis-à-vis the voice assistants integrated into its products, with perhaps even the hope that one day the brand will no longer have to tie up with Google. or Amazon. Verdict next month.
