South African returnees – Styria: Two more suspected Omikron cases

The first suspected case of the new, contagious Omikron virus variant in Styria became known on Monday. Now there are more suspected cases: Two southern Styrians who recently returned from South Africa tested positive.

According to the State of Styria, the two people from the Leibnitz district have an increased probability that it is the new virus variant Omikron. You returned from South Africa on December 10th and have now tested positive for Corona. The suspicion arises purely on the basis of the trip, it is emphasized. The laboratory will now examine the PCR samples for virus mutations. If the presence of a mutation cannot be ruled out, the samples are immediately forwarded to the Ages health agency for sequencing. The Leibnitz district administration has separated the infected people and their contact persons. First suspected case: No infection in the area There is good news in the first suspected case, a young man from the Graz area: There is still no sequencing result. But all contact persons have so far tested negative for Corona.
