Spotify buys ‘toxic’ content detection company

On Wednesday, October 5, 2022, audio streaming service Spotify announced the acquisition of Kinzen Limited, an Irish company specializing in identifying harmful content. The Dublin-based company has already been working with Spotify since 2020, but its primary assignments were primarily around election-related content around the world. His expertise has since grown.

“We use a mix of human expertise and machine learning to provide early warning of the dissemination of harmful content in multiple languagesexplains Kinzen on his site. Our team has developed unique technology that helps publishers analyze large volumes of content in multiple formats, including text, video, audio, and images. We have developed particular expertise in moderating podcasts.”

This acquisition is by no means trivial for the Swedish company. It comes after a controversy sparked earlier this year with the hit podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, in which the podcaster was accused of spreading misinformation about the Covid-19 pandemic. In France, a few months ago, the platform also deleted the content of far-right polemicist Alain Soral.
