Spotify is experimenting with the possibility of consulting the NFT gallery of musicians

The NFT (non-fungible tokens) are on the rise. To the extent that Spotifythe famous platform of music streaminghas decided to ride the wave by offering users access to the NFT galleries of certain artists.

The project is still in the testing phase and no one really knows where it will lead, but it confirms Spotify’s interest in Web3.

A step towards the future of music streaming?

For neophytes, an NFT is a (tamper-proof) digital certificate that allows artists to sell their creations exclusively to buyers. By offering unique songs or albums to their fans, many musicians see it as a lucrative way to increase their income.

Spotify has therefore decided to launch an experimental phase, during which it will be possible to explore the NFT galleries of a ” very small group of artists “, according to the words of the music streaming giant. The company has announced that it will not take any commission on token sales during this experimental phase.

Users who will have access to this new feature will therefore be able to browse an artist’s page (like Steve Aoki or The Wombats) and click on his NFT collection to bring up the gallery. Then, an embedded trading link will redirect to Opensea, a marketplace specializing in non-fungible tokens. It should be noted, however, that according to The Vergethe app doesn’t seem to accept NFTs in the form of GIFs or videos.

For the moment, it is difficult to know how this new service will evolve, or even if it will be maintained. Last October, Spotify had already demonstrated (successfully) its taste for innovation thanks to a partnership with Shopify, allowing artists to sell their merchandise directly through the application.
