In its latest version on desktop, Spotify finally benefits from a long-requested feature. No, still not HiFi quality, but a mini-player to get the best audio experience on Windows and macOS.

It’s been a while since Spotify offered something really new to its users. However, here is some good news today for those using the desktop streaming service and with a subscription: a mini-player.

Especially practical if you only have one (small) screen and are tired of alternating between the Spotify window and those of your other applications, this feature is easy to use and configure.

A welcome mini-player on Spotify

As shown in the screenshot below, to display the mini player, simply click on the icon at the bottom right of the interface, right next to the volume. This opens a small window independent of the main application, which remains on top of the other applications. It is thus possible to minimize or navigate in the main interface while keeping an eye on the current reading in the mini-player.

This window, which can be resized to different sizes in height and width to display the data in several ways (see the image below), offers buttons (play/pause, next/previous, random, volume , favorite), album cover and title, and artist. Note that this works with music, but also with podcasts and content with video.

A tool reserved for subscribers

Reserved (initially?) for those using Spotify with a subscription, this mini-player will have taken its time, but turns out to be rather complete. Its responsiveness is exemplary while its different sizes and methods of displaying information should allow everyone to find the format that suits them.

Note, however, that closing Spotify with the mini-player activated does not automatically reopen the latter when reopening Spotify. You will therefore have to launch the mini-player each time.
