‘Squid Game’ series makes SAG Awards history


“Squid Game” continues to write its name in history. The Korean series from Netflix has just obtained several nominations at the Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony. A first for a non-English-speaking series, underlines the American site Variety.

The creation of Hwang Dong-hyuk is thus cited four times in the list of nominations for the SAG Awards 2022, the ceremony organized by the very influential union of American film and television actors. Squid Game was nominated for Best Cast for a Drama Series along with Succession, The Handmaid’s Tale, Yellowstone and The Morning Show.

Comedian Jung Ho-yeon will face Sarah Snook (Succession), Reese Witherspoon (The Morning Show), Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show), and Elisabeth Moss (Handmaid’s Tale) for Best Actress in a Drama Series. Lee Jung-jae will compete for Best Actor in a Drama Series against Jeremy Strong (Succession), Brian Cox (Succession), Kieran Culkin (Succession), and Billy Crudup (The Morning Show). Squid Game will also compete in the Best Stunt Team in a Drama Series category against Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Mare of Easttown, Loki and Cobra Kai.

Already 2 billion hours of viewing on netflix

These nominations for the SAG Awards obviously delighted Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of Squid Game. “Since we released Squid Game, we have experienced a lot of surprising events. But these nominations in four categories of the SAG Awards are one of the most surprising and happy moments we have experienced. I am very honored especially since it is not one or two main actors who are recognized but the entire cast and stuntmen. I am happy to be able to thank each member of the team and each actor who worked on Squid Game”, he confides to Variety.
