Stadtkino Hallein – Covid crisis: dreary cinema times

Corona-related compulsory break, few events, hardly any new films: The city theater and city cinema in Hallein experienced probably the most difficult year in its history in 2020. No 5000 visitors were counted in the past pandemic year – a drastic decrease by almost 15,000 paying customers.

The numbers speak for themselves. For 2020, the balance sheet of the Hallein city cinema shows a loss of around 155,000 euros. The official closure as a result of the corona crisis hit the house hard. Only just under 5000 visitors came last year – in 2019 there were four times as many people. The municipality runs the cinema and theater itself and this year is contributing 251,000 euros in grants.

Bitter: There is no Covid compensation for municipal businesses. The city cinema goes away empty-handed – in contrast to large operators like Cineplexx.
