Just a few weeks ago, Stanley Tucci revealed that he had cancer. Now the “The Devil Wears Prada” star speaks about the diagnosis and the difficult path to healing.

At the beginning of September Stanley Tucci, 60, made public in an interview with the magazine “Vera” that he was diagnosed with cancer three years ago – and that less than ten years after his wife Kate Tucci, † 47, died of breast cancer. The actor stated at the time that he was now in remission and that the cancer was unlikely to return. Now he talks again about his fight against cancer and how he fared.

Stanley Tucci: “I’ve lost 150 pounds”

On the breakfast show “Good Morning America”, Stanley Tucci speaks openly about his diagnosis and the difficult time that lay behind him. He was diagnosed with a tumor on the base of the tongue. This was too big for an operation, but since the tumor had not yet spread metastases, Tucci was able to undergo “high-dose radiation and chemotherapy”. The cure rate of this treatment is very high and it also worked for him.

But the road to recovery was rocky and the 60-year-old suffered from side effects. “I was unable to eat solid foods for six months. I lost 14 kilos, my taste buds and salivary glands were destroyed, as was the inside of my mouth,” says the “Hunger Games” actor. In addition, it actually took three years before he felt “almost normal” again.

“It was devastating”

Above all, the father of five describes the loss of his sense of taste as “devastating”. Stanley Tucci is a big foodie: he regularly shares cooking videos on his Instagram channel and recently his memoirs titled “Taste: My Life Through Food” appeared. In the book, which is peppered with recipes, he guides the reader from his childhood to the present and shows the important role that food has played in his life.

He went through grueling therapy, but despite the side effects, it at least saved his life. “It’s a small price to pay for being alive and being able to enjoy my family’s company,” says Stanley Tucci, who has been married to Emily Blunts, 38, sister Felicity since 2012.
