As so often during Nintendo Direct, Square-Enix took the opportunity to announce several new projects and not the least, with Dragon Quest Monsters: Prince of Shadows on one side and Star Ocean The Second Story R. Well, this one had leaked, but other than a logo, we knew absolutely nothing about it and assumed it would still be a remaster. Finally, it’s a remake with an astonishing artistic direction to which we will be entitled and which will be released in boxes! We are clearly winners on the exchange. Here is its first trailer:
It is therefore the 1998 game released on the first PlayStation of the name that will benefit from a remake, whose unpublished illustrations were produced by Yukihiro Kajimoto, illustrator of the license, while the soundtrack was rearranged by his original composer, Motoi Sakuraba. We will have the choice between a English and Japanese dubwith the voices of the original cast returning, all with French subtitlesItalian, German and Spanish, which will however have to be downloaded via an update at launch. A curious choice…
Star Ocean The Second Story R comes to life with the charm of 2.5D, which combines stunning 3D environments with pixel art characters, and offers both classic RPG and modern gameplay experience. Players will find some of the elements that made the original game memorable, as well as new gameplay elementsas frantic real-time combat And mechanics allowing you to use strategycustomizable team progression through a range of skills including cooking, metalworkingand many others. Three new difficulty modes also added: “EARTH”, the classic game experience, “GALAXIE”, for people looking for a challenge, and “UNIVERSE” for experienced people who want to put their skills to the test.
The story begins when Claude, an officer of the Federation finds himself on a mysterious planet. While searching for a way to return home, he meets a young girl and finds himself embarked on a quest to save his people, just as an ancient prophecy foretold. The players will start their adventure with Claude or with Rena. Their choice will modify the events and allies available. They will learn more about their companions through the unique Private Actions system, which will allow them to build relationships with them and unlock different endings.
Star Ocean The Second Story R will be released at the end of the year, on November 2, 2023 on PS5, PS4, Switch and PC (Steam). If this last platform will only be entitled to digital, physical editions are well planned elsewhere! Standard editions will cost €49.99 (at the house of Amazon For example), while a large collector will be billed €209.99exclusive to the online store of Square-Enix.
