  • Star Trek: Discovery fans were in shock when Netflix withdrew the show.
  • Now Netflix has signed an exclusive deal with a screenwriter from the Star Trek: Discovery team.
  • Since the author is also set for a new “Star Trek” film, scheduling conflicts could now arise.

What exactly happened behind the scenes at the “Star Trek: Discovery” -Aus on Netflix, nobody really knows. In any case, the sole rights to the series are now with ViacomCBS and the in-house streaming service Paramount +. “Star Trek: Discovery” Season 4 will be broadcast in Germany on Pluto TV. The live TV provider is also part of ViacomCBS.

Since the collaboration between Paramount and Netflix has borne fruit in the past, it is not without reason that “Star Trek: Discovery” and thus the entire “Star Trek” universe are enjoying great popularity, Netflix is now expanding the collaboration.

Not with Paramount, but with Star Trek: Discovery screenwriter Kalinda Vasquez. The company has signed an exclusive deal with Netflix and will be working on various new projects for the streaming service over the next few years.

It’s wonderful for Netflix and the writer, of course, but Vasquez is also the scriptwriter for a new “Star Trek” film, which could be delayed as a result. Since little is known about the future of the “Star Trek” films so far, it is difficult to predict whether this could have far-reaching consequences.

A film has been announced for the end of 2023. Since various artists, including “WandaVision” director Matt Shakman, have been brought on board for various projects (or at least for one and the same), it is unclear which project will ultimately occupy the already confirmed cinema slot – if Paramount does it itself at all already know.

Vasquez’s film is unlikely to be due to her new deal. Her next Netflix project is the series “Arbor Hall”. The next “Star Trek” project is next to the upcoming episode of the fourth season of course the second season of “Star Trek: Picard”, which starts in February 2022.
