Ewan McGregor to Reprise His Role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Disney+ Expanded Universe Series Star Wars. So far, Star Wars series have been limited to the bounty hunter sector, with The Mandalorianwhich made the buzz especially for Baby Yoda, and The Book of Boba Fettwhich turned out to be disappointing.

While the program was in production until then, without any particular horizon, it was on February 9, 2022 that Disney+ finally formalized the arrival of the series. The SVOD service provided not only a date, but also a poster.

Kenobi will therefore be available on Disney+ from May 25, 2022. Like all series on the platform, it will be necessary to follow up to one episode per week.

The poster does not reveal much: we simply see Obi-Wan walking alone in a desert (a fairly typical iconography of Star Wars). No synopsis has been revealed regarding Kenobi. We know, however, that the events of the series will take place 10 years later. Revenge of the Sith. There are not many people left, at this time, of the Jedi order. In addition, the TV series will have 6 episodes.

What did Obi-Wan do during those 10 years? What will be his main mission from now on? We’ll learn all of this with the series, and maybe trailers should be here soon to give some additional plot details. Note that Hayden Christensen will resume his role of Anakin / Darth Vader.

May 25 is not a detail

You might be surprised that Disney+ didn’t seize the opportunity to kick off the series on May 4 — the infamous “Star Wars Day.” But May 25 is not a date without interest either: May 25, 1977 was released on American screens Star Wars: A New Hope. At this date, the potential of Star Wars was not yet necessarily understood, and hold on tight: on May 25, 1977, only 32 cinemas (and 8 others a few days later) had undertaken to broadcast A New Hope.

In any case, May 25, 2022 will mark the franchise’s 45th anniversary Star Wars since the release of the very first George Lucas film. It is therefore also the 45th anniversary of the first appearance of Obi-Wan Kenobi on the screen (interpreted then by Alec Guinness, the older version of the character).
