Star Wars: Oscar Isaac wanted a love story between Poe and Finn

Actor Oscar Isaac, who plays pilot Poe Dameron in the “Star Wars” saga, would have liked a love story to arise between his character and that of Finn, played by John Boyega.

In the last trilogy of the Star Wars saga, a real bond is woven between the characters of Poe Dameron and Finn. So much so that many have imagined a possible love story between the two intergalactic heroes. In 2019, while promoting The Rise of Skywalker, actor Oscar Isaac, who plays Poe, regretted that “natural alchemy” between the two men did not lead to something more romantic.

“Personally, I hoped and wished that maybe it would go further between them in the other films, but I have no control over that”said the actor at the microphone of Variety. “It seemed like a natural progression though, but unfortunately we live in a time where people are too scared, I think, of… I don’t know what. (…) If they had been boyfriends, that would have been fun.”

John Boyega, who plays the character of Finn, agreed with his colleague. “Poe and Finn have always had a pretty loving and open relationship, so it wouldn’t have seemed too weird if it had gone any further”he said, also for Variety.

“For me, their relationship is much deeper than a romantic relationship”noted director JJ Abrams. “They have a deep bond, not just because of the fiery ordeal they met in, but also because of their determination to be so intimate, scared, uncertain, yet bold and courageous.”
