Adored by some, hated by others, episode 8 of Star Wars, directed by Rian Johnson, has divided fans. Five years after The Last Jedi, will the filmmaker return to the galaxy far, far away? He answers.
Released in December 2017, Star Wars The Last Jedi caused a lot of ink to flow, creating a monumental divide within the community of fans of the intergalactic saga.
Its director, Rian Johnson, was the target of many critics, before changing register by taking care of the franchise At Knives Out with Daniel Craig. However, the director revealed by Looper has no intention of leaving the intergalactic universe.
Interviewed by the magazine Empire as part of the promotion for Knives Out 2, the filmmaker confirmed his trilogy is still on fire.

“I stayed close to Kathleen Kennedy [Présidente de Lucasfilm]we often talk about this project”he said. “At this point it’s all just a matter of planning when it might happen. It would break my heart if I was done now.”chanted Rian Johnson.
“I’m even more proud of The Last Jedi 5 years later”he continues. “I think it’s impossible for any of us to approach Star Wars without thinking it’s a myth. A myth that we grew up with and that has insinuated itself into us, had an impact on us”underlines Rian Johnson.

“The ultimate intention was not to tear it up, on the contrary, it was to go back to basics, to the fundamental power of myth. In the end, I hope this film is an affirmation of this power that myth wields Star Wars on our lives”he assures.
The filmmaker also returned to the controversial outcome of episode 8. “The last images of the film, for me, are not a way of deconstructing the myth of Luke, they help to build it and show that he accepts it”he explains.
“We see him defying that notion of ‘sweeping away your past’ and accepting what really matters in his mythos, and what makes him inspire future generations. So for me, the process of ‘busting’ the mythos has only an interest only if it makes it possible to create something essential, which really matters”he concluded.
However, we will have to be patient because the native of Maryland has a very busy schedule. He is currently busy with post-production and promotion of Glass Onion: Knives Out 2, due out December 23 on Netflix.
In this sequel, detective Benoît Blanc travels to Greece to try to solve a mystery involving a gallery of colorful suspects.
Johnson will then go on to film the 3rd part while at the same time taking care of Poker Face, a series of which he is the creator, screenwriter and producer. It will be worn by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Natasha Lyonne.
The latter will play an investigator who has to solve a case in each episode, in the same vein as her Knives Out franchise.
