Steffen Henssler and Tim Mälzer: Your way to success as TV chefs

Steffen Henssler and Tim Mälzer duel after "Kitchen Impossible" at "Grill den Henssler". This is how her career as a TV chef went.

Steffen Henssler (47) and Tim Mälzer (49) will compete against each other again on Sunday, August 2nd (8:15 p.m. at VOX) in the program "Grill den Henssler". So far, there is a tie between the TV chefs. In March of this year, the two TV chefs dueled in Mälzer's "Kitchen Impossible" (winner: Mälzer), two years ago Henssler emerged as the winner of the duel on his own show. The two restaurateurs started their careers as television chefs over 15 years ago.

"Kitchen Impossible" is Tim Mälzer's secret weapon

It started with Tim Mälzer. From December 2003 he presented the cooking show "Tastes not, does not exist" (VOX). Previously, Mälzer had completed cooking training, gained experience abroad and opened his first own restaurant in Hamburg. "Doesn't taste good, doesn't exist" was broadcast until August 2007 and was nominated twice for the German TV Award.

Mälzer became known to a larger audience through the evening ZDF cookery show "Cooking at Kerner", in which he regularly conjured up a menu with colleagues from 2004 onwards. Since the end of 2007, he has also been a frequent guest on the VOX show "Die Kocharena", in which celebrity versus amateur chefs competed. In 2009 he got his own show "Tim Mälzer kocht!" in the first one, which was discontinued in 2014. From 2013 to 2015 he was also a juror on the Sat.1 show "The Taste".

In February 2016, Tim Mälzer started his most successful TV format: In "Kitchen Impossible" he delivers tough and heated duels with fellow cooks by sending the duelists to each other in a wide variety of countries and setting themselves the task of cooking dishes typical of the country. A jury on site decides on the success of the cooking result. In 2015, the format was awarded a German television award. Greats like Tim Raue (46), Roland Trettl (49), Maria Groß (41) and Steffen Henssler have already been guests.

Steffen Henssler brought Japanese-California cuisine to Germany

Henssler, who trained as a cook in North Friesland, attended a sushi academy in Los Angeles and brought his experiences from Japanese and California cuisine back to his home country. In 2001 he opened the "Henssler & Henssler" restaurant. From 2006 he got his own show "Henssler's Kitchen" on the NDR, before that he was a guest on Rainer Sass (66). From August to November 2007 he took over the slot from Tim Mälzer's "Ganz & Gar Henssler" "It doesn't taste good, it doesn't exist".

From 2008 to 2010 he was part of the permanent team of the ZDF cooking show "Die Küchenschlacht", from 2010 to 2014 Henssler then moderated his own program "Topfgeldjäger" at the station. From 2013, Henssler again showed his skills: In the popular show "Grill den Henssler", a revised version of "Die Kocharena", Henssler competes against a number of celebrities who receive support from professional chefs.

Henssler left the show in 2017, but returned to the fans' delight in 2019 after taking the break to compete in various challenges at ProSieben in "Schlag den Henssler". In February 2020, Henssler again took on a moderation job: he led the RTL cooking quiz show "Henssler's Countdown – Cooking at the Limit".
