MILAN, June 1 (Reuters) – Carmaker Stellantis will again halt operations at its key plant in Melfi, southern Italy, next week, a union representative said on Wednesday, citing shortages of various parts , especially semiconductors.

“Fortunately the factory has been working steadily throughout May, but when the chips aren’t being shipped we just can’t build cars,” said Marco Lomio, local official of the metalworkers’ union UILM.

Stellantis has confirmed that the factory will cease operations from June 6 to 11 due to a shortage of chips, which will affect more than 7,000 workers, a spokesman for the automaker told Reuters.
