With Command Znow available in its entirety, director/producer/screenwriter Steven Soderbergh wants above all to do good around him.

With this series, the man proves that he is as prolific as he is committed.

Humorous and committed SF

Steven Soderbergh has certainly not been idle lately. After the film Magic Mike’s Last Danceand in parallel with his miniseries full-circle offered on the Max streaming platform for a few days, the man with multiple hats launched by surprise Command Z. This miniseries in 8 episodes (each lasting about 10 minutes) has an eye on science fiction and can at times recall future-man.

Humorous, satirical, caustic and committed to several themes, starting with ecology, Command Z takes place in the future. As Earth has been devastated by multiple disasters, three employees (JJ Maley, Roy Wood Jr. and Chloe Radcliffe) are sent on a mission by a scientist (Michael Cera) to 2023 to try to right the wrongs of the past. Lovers of Ray Donovan and of Succession will probably recognize two other well-known faces in the cast.

The plot is inspired by the book Evil Geniuses: The Unmaking of America: A Recent History by Kurt Anderson. The latter also participated in the series.

Unique availability

Steven Soderbergh ensured the direction and production of his series thanks to his own production company Singani 63. The objective is, one imagines, not having to depend on a channel or a streaming platform like Netflix or Prime Video. So, Command Z is only available on a site, in source at the end of this article, and at the fixed price of 7.99 dollars.

This price may seem a little steep, but all proceeds from the series will go to two charities: Children’s Aid and Boston University Center Anti-Racism Research. In short, if you are looking for an atypical and committed short series, and a simple way to do a good deed, you know what you have to do! Be careful though, Command Z is only offered in English with automatically generated (and sometimes a bit rough) English subtitles.
