A decree adopted last January on the telephone canvassing will enter into force on April 1st in France. It aims to set new, more restrictive rules regarding calls from insurance brokers seeking to convince potential clients, reports CNews.

The idea is to better protect consumers against cold calling. Insurance professionals will now have to meet seven conditions. First of all, the seller must ask his interlocutor at the beginning of the exchange if he accepts the discussion. If not, the call should end and not be retried later.

A fine of 1500 euros

On April 1, brokers will only be able to canvass people already covered by an identical contract, which could then be terminated in favor of the new offer, explains the public service site. All documents relating to the contract must be sent to the client before the agreement is concluded and the law also imposes a 24-hour delay between the call and the signature.

Finally, the canvassing company must keep the recording of the telephone exchange that led to the transaction for two years, so as to provide proof in the event of a dispute.
