Turbulence, turbulence! The market for Graphic card cannot remain relatively stable for more than a few months.
Since the crisis linked to the COVID-19 pandemic, the world of graphics cards has been turned upside down… and the least we can say is that it takes time to recover!
Between stock shortages, pressure from cryptominers, disoriented supply chains and surreal pricing, it was complicated to replace an aging graphics card. Could the market be sinking again?
An upward trend at the entry level
Only two weeks ago, we mentioned a more than credible hypothesis as NVIDIA prepares to launch a new generation of GeForce.
Indeed, it is possible that next fall, the main competitors of the GeForce RTX 50 will be the GeForce RTX 40. AMD does not seem determined to counter-attack at the high end, and despite the efforts made, Intel is still looking into this market segment.
In order to promote the production and adoption of its new generation, NVIDIA would therefore have every interest in reducing the volumes of GeForce RTX 40 GPUs to focus on the new generation. Could this simple idea already have an impact today? 5 to 6 months before the release of these cards?
“Geopolitical” factors?
Relayed by TechRadarChinese sources close to the main production circuits are indeed talking about an upcoming increase in prices on certain models of GeForce graphics cards.
However, there is no question of the most high-end models, and everything suggests that it is the prices of the GeForce RTX 4060, RTX 3050 and GTX 1650 which could increase by 10% in the coming weeks. For the third model, it’s not really a surprise: NVIDIA stopped production a month ago, and stocks don’t last forever.
For the other two references, things are more subtle, and several factors seem to be added. Our colleagues thus evoke “ geopolitical and inflationary factors », at the same time as demand for these cards remains strong. The question our colleagues are asking is whether manufacturers will pass these increases on to their products?
While the graphics card market is in less shape in recent weeks, several manufacturers fear that new increases will scare away customers. That said, these increases seem to only concern NVIDIA cards… so there’s still AMD and Intel.
