Strong update – Jaguar F-Pace: It has never been so representative!

“My boat, my house, my car” may have been said before when you owned a Jaguar F-Pace. Now the long-legged Brit has received a profound update. “My yacht, my castle, my F-Pace” would now be a better fit, because Jaguar’s volume model is now much more representative. Not only on the outside, but it is particularly noticeable there.

Normally, when a car model gets an update in the middle of its life cycle, the effort that the manufacturer makes is limited. If journalists follow the invitation to the presentation, people like to talk about “gehma new blinker glasses look”. The sheet metal is seldom tampered with. Quite different with the Jaguar F-Pace: It has been given a completely new front, so to speak – including an impressively beautiful bonnet.

The bonnet now extends to the radiator grille and no longer ends in an unsightly gap that actually destroys the design. Now the domes of the hood really come into their own. The video above shows very well how serious the difference is to the predecessor.

The radiator grille itself has grown and now has “diamond-like” pins that enhance it optically. The rest of the front has also been redesigned. At the rear, the well-known lights, which reminded a little of hanging bags under the eyes, no longer shine, but the same ones that also adorn the sporty F-Type. Jaguar calls their curved LED graphics “chicanery graphics”.

Everything new in the interior
The interior has been completely redesigned, if only for the noble materials. But above all, the interior has also been redesigned. Fundamental. Starting with the automatic selector lever, which no longer rises as a rotary switch from the center console, but sits on it like a hand flatterer. Its leather cover with embroidered seams is said to be reminiscent of a cricket ball. You could associate the Jaguar F-Pace with a big hit, if you want.

Instead of the small, integrated display with the cumbersome operating system, there is now an elegantly curved 11.3-inch touchscreen that is 48 percent larger than the one in the predecessor. The navitainment is also new. It’s called Pivi or Pivi Pro and compared to the old software it is a real revelation. Two SIM cards are integrated, two smartphones can be paired, updates come over the air and it has its own power supply so that it can start up very quickly and the navigation system is ready as soon as you get in.

The whole impression during the journey is more relaxed, more confident, more noble than before. That may also be part of the noise-canceling system, which is integrated into the optional Meridian sound system. It analyzes the noises that are conducted from the road via the tires into the interior and muffles them with counter-noise.

Small thing on the side: the window regulators are now placed where they belong.

New, electrified engine range
All F-Paces have eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. With the exception of the 250 hp four-cylinder petrol engine in the P250, all drives are now more or less electrified. The plug-in hybrid P400e is completely new. It combines a two-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with a 105 kW / 143 hp electric motor to 297 kW / 404 hp system output and a system torque of 640 Nm. With this drive, the 2.1 tonne part-time electric vehicle accelerates from zero to 100 km / h in 5.3 seconds. He creates a maximum of 240 km / h.

The interaction of the machines works well, but of course you notice that the power comes from two sources or that the origin of the power changes. In purely electrical operation, the 13.6 kilowatt hours of net capacity of the battery according to WLTP are sufficient for a distance of 53 kilometers. Charging is carried out with up to 32 kW direct current (30 minutes for 80 percent) or at the home wallbox with 7 kW (1:40 hours for 80 percent).

If you don’t have a usage profile that speaks in favor of a plug-in hybrid, are you only looking for sovereign sportiness or love a six-cylinder sound, then the new P400 is your first choice. The three-liter six-cylinder is a 48-volt mild hybrid. It provides 400 hp and a maximum torque of 550 Nm and only has to do with 1953 kg, around three hundredweight less than the P400e. You can feel it in the handiness and the whole drive runs more smoothly. The standard sprint takes a tenth of a second longer, but the P400 works out at a full 250 km / h. The WLTP consumption here is 9.8 l / 100 km, but whether the real consumption is so much higher than with the P400e depends on the type of use.

In addition, three mild hybrid diesels are offered: two four-cylinder with 163 or 204 hp and one six-cylinder with 300 hp.

The price list starts at 58,903 euros for the D165. The P400e is available from 72,033 euros, the P400 from 84,014 euros. If there are no installments to be paid for the representative lock (and the restoration has already been completed), you can also use the top-of-the-line R-Dynamic HSE for 105,000 euros. Or straight to the V8 sports car SVR with 550 hp for 135,000 euros. But this is another story.
