A luminous peak capable of going up to 2000 cd/m²! This is Samsung’s promise with the 2023 vintage of its televisions QD-OLED.
Models that will once again try to push the limits to establish themselves as the pinnacle of the market, especially against OLED and Mini-LED.
The Korean Showdown
Samsung Display struck a blow last year by unveiling its QD-OLED panels, which have positioned themselves as an alternative to LG Display’s OLED thanks to concrete arguments such as wider coverage of color spaces, longer life of life, or a higher luminosity.
So many things that we were able to verify in part with our tests of the Samsung QE55S95B and Sony Bravia XR-55A95K televisions.
The photon race
For 2023, the Korean giant will continue to expand its QD-OLED range with the S95C, which succeeds last year’s S95B. This range will this time be available with a wider variety of diagonals: 55, 65 and 77 inches. We also learn that Samsung will launch a slightly cheaper alternative with the S90C, still in these same three diagonals, but this time the TV will be delivered without a One Connect box and will have a less flattering audio section than the S95C.
We haven’t had many details from Samsung Electronics yet, but Samsung Display has already communicated on the potential of its new QD-OLED panels.
The photon race with LG Display goes even further. Remember that LG announced just yesterday that its LG G3 will be able to reach a brightness of 1800 cd/m². Values that will of course be verified using measurements during our tests since there is often a significant gap between the announcements and reality. The same goes for Samsung since the QD-OLED panels of 2023 would be able to reach a light peak above 2,000 cd/m².
If this is true, Samsung’s QD-OLED televisions could then not only strengthen their position against LG, but also beat out certain Mini-LED references on the high end. For now, we just know that the Samsung S95C will be available in the first half of the year. Prices and other details will be revealed at a later date.
