Officially, the parents of the 10 and 11 year olds were informed that it was a school outing on the theme of healthy eating. However, the reality is much more sordid. Indeed, the CEIP Lope de Vega school organized a workshop with the local hunting federation.
Who says hunting, therefore says game. Indeed, the purpose of this school outing was actually to promote game meat. For this, students were asked to butcher wild boar and deer. Then cook the meat before eating it. The organizers had therefore planned to praise the benefits of game meat, compared to other meats. The arguments: this meat is natural and sustainable, has a high protein value and a limited lipid profile. A workshop that could certainly have traumatize more than one student.

Fortunately, when the parents found out what was going on behind their backs, they did pressure on the school to have this field trip cancelled. Some parents of students explained that they considered this school outing to be inappropriate. Others have complained that they haven’t received any details regarding the release. And for good reason, the parents of students had not even been informed of the involvement of the hunting federation during this school activity.
“Things must be done well, with regard to the nature of the activity, the authorization of families for the participation of children or the respect of sanitary measures”, said Adríán Rodríguez of the parents’ association.
This affair was therefore quickly rumored on the Web. “I find it disgusting and traumatic for most children,” commented a user on Twitter. In the face of the emerging controversy, the school has therefore made the wise decision to cancel this school outing. Phew!
