Many people are suffering from the effects of the corona pandemic. Now children and young people reveal how they experience this time – and what it does to them.

The pandemic has been around the world for over a year now. Many people suffer from the effects of the coronavirus for health, financial or psychological reasons. It is not always easy, especially for children and young people – they live in an exceptional situation. Due to the school and daycare closings, they lacked social contact, and homeschooling presented them and their parents with new challenges. It is often more difficult for them to cope with this extreme situation than for adults who have more life experience.

Students make themselves heard

In the book “School in Corona Mode – Impressions and Experiences from Schoolchildren”, more than 400 schoolchildren from 44 schools put their experiences and feelings on paper. The book, which gives an authentic insight into the mood of young people, was written by the Action Hessen helps as well as Tobias Greilich. The children and young people recorded their thoughts in the form of diaries, poems or comics. As editor has Action Hessen helps an editorial revision is dispensed with, since an “unadorned picture of the mood” is to be reproduced. You can read the most moving quotes from the students here.

Students about the pandemic

Action Hessen helps

In 1991 the initiative Action Hessen helps Founded by students in Hessen for the victims of the civil war in Yugoslavia. Since then, the association has provided humanitarian aid in 30 countries around the world. “Wherever there is a need and we have the opportunity to help, we make our contribution – usually on-site ourselves”, says the organization’s website. With “School in Corona Mode”, she is now giving young people from elementary school to high school age the opportunity to have their say.
