How about we talk a little bit about training? No need to panic: there is no question here of discussing your Personal Training Account, telephone sales people are already doing it quite enough, between two proposals for new windows or thermal insulation at € 1…

Until December 24, Clubic opens a box of his sound every day Advent calendar 2021
: the opportunity to discover unusual or practical gadgets, gift ideas, for oneself or for loved ones.

Created seven years ago, Studio Jiminy offers training in the field of photography. But beware, not just any old way: its founders are convinced that learning goes above all through education of the gaze, almost considering technique as secondary.

Therefore, the material is not the most important and it becomes possible to take beautiful images without having a state-of-the-art camera.

No jargon

If it is the look that takes precedence, that does not mean that it is not necessary to know the technical bases. Studio Jiminy also offers a module ” the basics of photography »Intended for beginners. We discover the basics with ease, avoiding the jargon that the pros are generally fond of.

It is then possible to supplement your knowledge with a few courses on photographic retouching, including training devoted to Photoshop, Lightroom or Affinity Photo, an inexpensive and increasingly popular competitor to heavyweight Adobe.

The subjects covered are then as varied as they are interesting. Studio Jiminy, for example, presents everything you need to know to master food photography, the art of image composition, night photography or even children’s portraits. Each course is divided into video modules that can be viewed from a computer, smartphone or tablet. Some are accompanied by podcast and course materials, generally sheets to consult or download.

Great successes

The training is provided by an expert in his field. The one on image composition, for example, is presented by Michael Freeman, a photographer recognized as an expert in the field. Among the great successes of Studio Jiminy are the courses on animal photography as well as the realization of landscapes.

We also had a soft spot for street photography training. Although it is one of the first to have been part of the catalog, it remains more relevant than ever. Photographer Bernard Jolivalt discusses essential notions there through walks in Paris.

Admittedly, the form is not as refined there as in the most recent courses, but the themes tackled remain relevant, like the famous “decisive moment” theorized by Henri Cartier-Bresson or the realization of furtive photographs.

Photojam

Beyond classic training, Studio Jiminy regularly offers Photojams. Declined around a specific theme, they include training, sessions live to follow on the Net as well as a photographic challenge ending with a reading of images (pros share their opinion on the images of the participants).

Instead of selling its training individually, Studio Jiminy opted for a Netflix model. The entire catalog is accessible with a monthly subscription of € 14.90. Another possibility is the annual subscription billed at 149 €, or 99 € during the holiday season.

Obviously, the formula has appealed since Studio Jiminy still claims 3,000 active users. Not bad for a small Franco-French box!
