Study: How the corona crisis changes the lives of Germans

The corona crisis has somehow shaped us all. It is currently difficult to estimate whether it will be sustainable or short-term. But you can find out how the pandemic current affects the lives of individuals, such as their mental state, their health, their well-being and their everyday life – by asking questions. The magazine "TV Spielfilm plus" did just that in cooperation with the market research company MediaAnalyzer and published the results of its representative study entitled "Work-Life in times of Corona". Here are the most important findings of the survey.

Mental and physical condition

Corona gives us time and deceleration: Almost 30 percent of those surveyed in this study indicated that the pandemic had worsened their mental state (34 percent of women and 22 percent of men – whether this difference is related to the closed childcare facilities …?). Only 5 percent noticed an improvement in themselves. The crisis also had a physical impact: 15 percent noticed a change, 7 percent noticed an improvement. 23 percent, or almost a quarter of all respondents, have gained weight in the past few weeks – 32 percent said they cooked themselves more frequently, and 35 percent recently went out for a walk.

What is missing / burdens most?

What strikes the respondent most among the corona restrictions (e) is apparently the contact restriction: Almost 90 percent particularly missed meeting friends and relatives, 82 percent lacked hugs and physical closeness. Travel was at the time of the survey (May 4th to 11th) 69 percent of those surveyed are particularly important and were fourth behind the restaurant visits (77 percent) of the most painfully missed freedoms.

Media and communication

A logical consequence if visits and meetings are no longer necessary: More calls are made! 37 percent of those surveyed confirmed that they used the phone more frequently in private during the corona crisis, 29 percent used more communication channels with video function. As for media consumption, 35 percent said they watched TV longer than usual, while 29 percent now read significantly more. 55 percent generally dealt with the news more than usual, however, 72 percent find it negative and disturbing if the media only report on Corona … apropos: do you actually know how to get fluffy brows? Or what best barbecue mistakes you should avoid? Or how do you get more erotic in your relationship? We also believe that as much as Corona shapes our lives at the moment, it doesn't have to be all about it.
