Two men are said to have used fake vaccination passports to prove a Covid vaccination during controls in Kirchbach (Southeast Styria district). A 71-year-old stated that he had been offered the counterfeit “for a few eight glasses of wine”. The police announce further controls.
On Thursday afternoon, officers from the Kirchbach police station carried out 2G checks in various restaurants and at service providers close to the body. A 43-year-old from the Graz-Umgebung district stated in a restaurant that he could not show a QR code for checking with the app. He also doesn’t have a vaccination card with him. When the vaccination certificate was presented, the police finally found abnormalities in the stamping. After officials finally asked the man more about the doctor’s office, the 43-year-old got entangled in contradictions. In the end, he confessed to having bought the fake vaccination certificate from a stranger in Graz and – for fear of possible vaccination reactions – not being vaccinated. The employer scanned the QR code of a marginally employed 71-year-old from the district of Southeast Styria. After a check failed, she contacted the doctor listed in the (physical) vaccination certificate. He stated that he had never vaccinated the affected man. Accordingly, it would be a forgery of the doctor’s stamp. The 71-year-old went to the Kirchbach police station two days later to file a voluntary report. He had already been offered the vaccination pass at the beginning of October by a stranger in southern Styria “for a few eight bottles of wine” and so far only needed it once as evidence . The two men will be reported to the Graz Public Prosecutor’s Office on suspicion of forgery after the surveys have been completed. State Police Director Gerald Ortner announced further checks in Styria: “The focus for us will be on detecting forged test or vaccination certificates . “
