The SU7, Xiaomi’s first electric car, is generating enthusiasm even in our regions, even if we should not see it on our roads in the near future. In China, where the Xiaomi ecosystem occupies a central place in many homes thanks to its vast range of electronic products, the arrival of the tech giant in the automotive sector is a major event.
Thus, since its launch on March 28, many curious people have gone to the doors of Xiaomi stores to discover and try the SU7, even if it means waiting in line for several hours. A scene that only Apple could claim to match, although this scenario now seems to be ruled out.
In Shanghai for example, around 10,000 people came to meet the SU7, some hoping to get a slot to try it. They were primarily allocated to customers who had already made a deposit to purchase the car. “Tests were scheduled until 3 a.m. on March 30”, indicate the managers of the point of sale. The public who came to discover the SU7 is largely made up of young couples.
Already several have gone to waste
These numerous customer tests resulted in a few accidents, fortunately minor. Thus, for several days, there have been numerous photos and videos of damaged Xiaomi SU7 circulating on Weibo. In particular, we were able to see a driver of an SU7 Aqua Blue hit a low wall after slightly hasty acceleration in a corner. The model’s driving aids do not appear to have reacted correctly to this driving error.

As for the other accidents, they look more like unfortunate collisions, as there inevitably are with such numerous tests.
The first feedback on the SU7 is generally positive and shows an apparently very accomplished vehicle for a first model, an integration into the Xiaomi ecosystem very appreciated in China and some good ideas such as the hanging system for official or third party accessories. While Xiaomi received no less than 88,989 orders in 24 hours for its SU7, the delivery times announced for new orders are lengthening.
