Only a few months after its launch in France, the Subaru Solterra saw its price drop by more than 11,000 euros. The Japanese manufacturer wants to better compete with the Tesla Model Y, while the price war is more intense than ever.
Have you ever seen a Subaru Solterra on the streets? Truth be told, there’s a good chance the answer is no. And for good reason, the latter was launched only four months ago in Francetwo years after its official revelation.
A falling price
A delay which was explained in particular by the shortage of semiconductors, which has largely been resolved since time. Technical cousin of the Toyota bZ4X, this new arrival on the market had many arguments on paper, starting with its very correct technological equipment. Yes, but this has to be paid for, and very expensive indeed. And for good reason, it cost no less than 64,990 euros at launch. A hefty price, especially for a brand that is already little known here.
Not enough to facilitate the launch of this new electric arrival, especially since it costs more than its cousin from Toyota. But the Japanese firm seems to be aware of having been a little too greedy, and it has therefore decided to make a small gesture. The price of the SUV had been lowered to 59,990 euros, which however still remains very expensive. But that was without counting on a new drop just announced.
The site Clean Automotive announces that Subaru is offering a nice discount on its electric SUV. The latter is of the order of 11,390 euros, which allows it to go down to 48,600 euros. A nice gesture on the part of the manufacturer, which however does not make its car eligible for the ecological bonus of 4,000 euros. The latter is not part of the list of models that are eligible for government assistance. At issue: its place of manufacture.
This drop should, however, allow it to become a little more competitive, in particular against the Tesla Model Y, which starts from 42,990 euros and which can also claim the bonus. And this is due to its manufacture in the Gigafactory in Berlin, Germany. Suffice to say that Subaru didn’t have much choice, especially since the new world leader in electric vehicles, BYD, announced an even more intense price war in 2024.
An attractive offer
But that’s not all, because the Subaru Solterra also benefits froma nice discount on long-term rental for customers who wish it. On his websitethe Asian manufacturer announces a financing offer from 499 euros per month, with a first rent of 5,000 euros. This is valid for a contract of 60 months and 50,000 kilometers.
Be careful, because you will need to order the vehicle before March 31 to take advantage of this offer. But what are we entitled to with all these discounts? In its entry-level version, the electric SUV rival of the recently tested Peugeot e-3008 comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, intelligent adaptive cruise control as well as regenerative braking, among others.
The Subaru Solterra is available in a single version equipped with all-wheel drive and displaying a total power of 218 horsepower. Everything is associated with a 71.4 kWh battery, which allows it to display a range of 465 kilometers in mixed cycle according to WLTP approval. Enough to reassure customers, who want to be able to travel at least 400 kilometers on a single charge.
It is necessary to count About 30 minutes to go from 20 to 80% thanks to rapid direct current charging, at a power of 150 kW. On alternating current, the car is limited to only 7 kW and requires no less than nine hours on a wallbox at home.
