It was in Tokyo that Subaru decided to unveil a new 100% electric car.
A Subaru STI E-RA… with more than 1,000 horsepower!
The Subaru STI E-RA, for the track only
Like many manufacturers, Subaru is also rushing into the path of electromobility. The brand notably formalized its Solterra at the end of last year, a first 100% electric SUV, twin to the Toyota bZ4X.
This weekend, the Japanese brand wanted to stand out again, presenting in Tokyo an STI version of its Solterra (i.e. a sportier version), but also an astonishing STI E-RA concept.
Unlike the Solterra SUV, this is by no means a car aimed at parking wisely in your garage and making your daily trips. We are faced here with an electric racing car cut for the track, whose objective is to introduce new technologies for the electric vehicles of tomorrow.
Concretely, in addition to its very elaborate FIA E-GT aerodynamics, the Subaru STI E-RA is powered by a quartet of electric motors, which develop a total power of 1,073 hp. Power redistributed independently to the four wheels of the car, with an engine that was developed in collaboration with Yamaha.
With this racing car, Subaru intends to achieve a time of 6 minutes and 40 seconds on the Nürburgring track. The first tests are scheduled very soon, while the attack on the famous circuit will take place in 2023. Note that 2023 will also see the birth of the first FIA E-GT championship, which will see electric racing cars whose power will be limited to 577 hp.
