Succession: Logan Roy had designated his heir!

The creator of the series, Jesse Armstrong, puts an end to a debate: it seems that Logan Roy had chosen his heir…

Spoiler alert! The following article unveils the plot of the latest episode of “Succession”.

On May 28, Succession bid farewell to the small screen by finally answering a question left unanswered throughout the series: who will succeed Logan Roy (Brian Cox), at the head of the Waystar company?

Among the contestants we had Logan’s eldest son Kendall (Jeremy Strong), daughter Shiv (Sarah Snook) and youngest son Roman (Kieran Culkin) – the eldest, Connor (Alan Ruck), not being interested in his father’s empire.

But after the death of the patriarch at the start of the season and in the final minutes of the final episode, the story finally takes a surprising turn and the Waystar board votes to sell the company to the tycoon of Swedish tech Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård), Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen), Shiv’s ex-husband, then becomes its American CEO.

However since episode 4 of the last season, a debate was launched. Indeed, at Logan’s wake, Frank (Peter Friedman) discovered an undated document which seemed to name Kendall as successor. However, a line was drawn under and then through Kendall’s name, raising the question of whether Logan wished to underline or cross out Kendall’s name: a distinction that would reveal his true intentions regarding his succession.

Jesse Armstrong finally puts an end to the debate. While speaking last week at a Financial Times event in London (via Variety), the creator of the series spoke about this document which seemed to be Logan’s last will and especially this famous line…

If you crossed something out, you wouldn’t start under it, would you?he asked the audience rhetorically.

Succession creator Jesse Armstrong confirms that Logan Roy underlined Kendall’s name, NOT crossed out. ‘If you scratched something, you wouldn’t start under it.’

This suggests that Logan wanted his son Kendall to succeed him. Alas, this was not the case and the latter will never know.

Succession can be found in its entirety on Amazon Prime Video (via the Warner Pass).
