Suez: 100% recyclable wind blade via the ZEBRA consortium

(CercleFinance.com) – The ZEBRA consortium (Zero wastE Blade ReseArch – zero waste wind turbine blade), associating the French research center IRT Jules Verne and several industrialists (Arkema, CANOE, Engie, LM Wind Power, Owens Corning and SUEZ) has reached a new stage in the transition to a circular economy with the production of the first prototype of its 100% recyclable wind turbine blade.

The 62 m blade was made from Arkema’s Elium resin, a thermoplastic resin well known for its recyclable properties.

The ZEBRA consortium aims to develop thermoplastic wind turbine blades in an eco-design approach in order to facilitate recycling.

Manufacturers will now focus on the stages of recycling production waste or even on the dismantling and recycling of this first dawn.
